Classic Band Tees Revisited (Or Ripped Off)

They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery. Well the 7 bands listed below should be very, very flattered. Their tee shirt designs have been ripped off so many times that today’s youth might not even know the originals and being… original.

A simple Google search of “Run DMC” resulted in dozens of copy cat t-shirts. The Kings of Rock have been ripped off by everyone from Sesame Street to Dub Step and pretty much everyone in between. The red stripes with “RUN DMC” is uppercase block letters is such a powerful, simple, classic design that its sad to it being so overused. (See this site full of geeky terms using the tee-shirt design )

The pioneers of rap aren’t the only ones who’ve been “flattered” by DIY t-shirt makers over the past decade. Take a look at this round up of band tee shirt design that have been revisited.

Hot Dougs is a great Chicago hot dog institution. I’ve waited the standard 1.5 hours (in the January cold might I add) to eat a delicious dog here.

Rocksmith has built its brand on paying homage to 90’s hiphop acts. I was happy to see this tee depicting a young Notorious BIG (from his Ready to Die album cover) chasing that C.R.E.A.M. Biggie Smalls is the ILLEST!
